Time for a brief introduction of our new Sales Manager

We would like to introduce you to our new colleague Tessa Getrouw, who recently moved back to the Netherlands after living in Brazil for 4 years and joins our team to reinforce the sales at Business Booking International.

After graduating from my Tourism Management studies, I decided to exchange my Dutch cheese hometown Edam for a more exotic hub and I moved to Rio de Janeiro in 2012.

Working for an incoming tourism agency with its focus on Latin-America, I had a great opportunity to be part of the organization of the FIFA Confederations Cup, World Cup and Olympic Games. As an accommodation specialist in Brazil, I worked with different corporate clients like sponsors, national committees, sports federations and similar groups.

Consulting and (event) organizing is what I really enjoy in my work, and it gives me great satisfaction if I can help clients achieve their objectives. I am looking forward to engaging new corporate clients to make use of our services for hotel bookings, flights, and group travel. It is exciting to be active with a very professional team!

Please contact me if you would like to make an appointment and look at opportunities to work together. It will be my pleasure to meet you in person anytime soon!

Kind regards, Tessa Getrouw (tg@bbih.nl)

Consequences of the Brexit according to travel experts

During the recent Business Travel Show director Rohitesh Dhawan from KPMG Brexit Centre of Excellence announced that the air travel into and out of the U.K. will be expected to fall 3 to 5 percent by 2020 because of the Brexit.

According to a survey from the Ireland`s Institute of Travel Management. From the survey was concluded that 70% of ITM buyer members expects their air costs travel to rise as a result of the Brexit and 63% expects higher hotel costs.

Entry of U.K. visitors to the EU
Another risk that came forward was the entry of UK visitors to the EU and vice versa. Dhawan expects that there will be less free movement than there is now. ´´Hopefully, sense will prevail, but there will be at least another area of checks´´ said Mark Cuschieri, Chairman of Ireland´s Institute of Travel Management. “Anything that changes freedom of movement adds complexity´´.  Robert Goodwill, U.K. immigration minister told the parliament that the EU is considering a version of the U.S.´s Electronic System for Travel Authorization for visitors from Visa Waiver Program. This might apply to U.K. visitors to EU countries.

Freedom of movement for airlines
In addition the freedom of movement for airlines is a big concern. Commercial aviation is deregulated for carriers registered within the EU. For example the U.K. registered EasyJet can fly from the U.K. to other countries. The EU’s Open Skies agreement with the U.S. and other countries no longer include the U.K. Aviation agreements are not covered by the World Trade Organisation. This means that the government of the U.K. has to realize that this needs to be covered.

“Open Skies should be high on the list, but who knows”? Said Dhawan about the topic. He added “Economic logic will give way to political logic, so things that don’t make economic sense will get waved through’’.
